The Nightrage saga so far

"A new disease is born" bio

Swedish/Greek melodic death metal outfit NIGHTRAGE are back with a vengeance, and this time their new disease will leave no one uninfected! After two highly successful and critically acclaimed albums on Century Media NIGHTRAGE has now turned to seasoned metal producer Jacob Hansen (Mercenary, Hatesphere, Raunchy) to record a masterpiece of ruthlessly heavy riffing as well as soaring and ethereal melodies bearing the title “A New Disease is Born”, the follow-up to 2005’s “Descent into Chaos”.

The result is an inspiring album mixing NIGHTRAGE’s tradememark take on melodic death metal with an unconditional vision of what the future of the genre should sound like; the relentless onslaught of opening track ‘Spiral’ through the divinely bewitching melodies of “Defame” to the death metal mega-hit “A Condemned Club” NIGHTRAGE show with the greatest clarity that death metal can be truly uncompromising while also inventive and open-minded.

Since NIGHTRAGE was formed in Greece by Marios Iliopoulos and guitar hero Gus G many prominent figures of metal such as Tomas Lindberg (ex AT THE GATES, THE GREAT DECEIVER), Nicholas Barker (DIMMU BORGIR, CRADLE OF FILTH), Per Möller Jensen (THE HAUNTED) has collaborated with the band, and after a few member changes the line-up is now as strong as their vision of metallic perfection. Guitarist and founder Marios Iliopoulos is the core of the band. NIGHTRAGE is finally in unquestionable unity, and have already proved their worth as an almighty metal machine on tour right up to the recording of “A New Disease is Born”.

With their new label Lifeforce records, NIGHTRAGE are now ready to step up to the higher echelons of death metal, with an album that is sure to send riveting tremors throughout an unsuspecting world. Abandon all hopes of a cure when this new disease is born in February 2007!

"Descent Into chaos" bio

Swedish melodic Death Metal sensation NIGHTRAGE return with yet another musical vengeance entitled Descent Into Chaos! After their furious debut inception with Sweet Vengeance in 2003, for which the band ranked worldwide praise by all aficionados of the true Gothenburg style of heaviness. That album also earned classy decorations like “Album of the Month” pick in Canadian magazine Brave Words or also a full score review in Germany’s Metal Hammer citing Sweet Vengeance as “a future classic and the first legitimate stylistic follow-up of At the Gates’ Slaughter of the Soul”.
On the shoulders of the positive attention for Sweet Vengeance, NIGHTRAGE didn’t only commence working on the material for their second attack, but also saw the necessity to reassemble their line-up’s rhythm section to achieve a shape that would enable them to act like a proper band and perform live. The Haunted’s Per M. Jensen was solidly replaced by ex-Septic Flesh drummer Fotis Benardo (ex-Cradle of Filth / Dimmu Borgir skinsman Nick Barker had filled in on their live-debut on a festival in Gothenburg) and for bassist Brice Leclercq (now with Dissection) the talented youngster Henric Carlsson (also in Cipher System) stepped in.

The band’s core (which can be seen as a best of worlds between Greece and Sweden, really) nevertheless remained the same: leading force Marios Iliopoulos and his Greek countryman axe-partner Gus G. (ex-Dream Evil, also in Firewind) once more display intimidating composing teamwork flow and Tompa Lindberg (ex-At The Gates) adds the undisputed best extreme Metal vocals for a band of their style into the mix.

Descent into Chaos presents NIGHTRAGE with an advanced, uncompromising and focused attitude, remaining faithful to their melodic Death Metal sound, but adding an even heavier edge on to this full throttle album without any lulls. Despite its heaviness, the album has a constant traditional Heavy Metal influence, which mostly shines through when Marios and Gus lock in battle, trading off merciless riffs and leads. Casual keyboards courtesy of Dream Evil’s Fredrik Nordström, a guest clean vocal appearance by Dark Tranquillity’s Mikael Stanne on the track “Frozen” and the dark instrumental piece “Solus” are additional atmospheric highlights to this all-quality delivery.

Production-wise, Patrik J. Sten has captured some of the best sound ever to come out of the glorious halls of Gothenburg’s own Studio Fredman (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Opeth, etc.) and the outstanding artwork by Greek artist Set<´H> (Heaven Shall Burn, Rotting Christ, Caliban, etc.) are further highlights for Descent Into Chaos, designing the album to be a masterstroke for any supporter of melodic Death Metal.
Does it possibly get any better than Descent into Chaos? Hardly, we dare say…

"Sweet Vengeance" bio

The band was originally formed in Greece back in the year 2000 by guitarist and mastermind Marios Iliopoulos, ex - Exhumation (who released three high quality Death Metal albums before, all produced in Sweden) and his friend Gus G. (known for his acclaimed performances with CMR shooting stars Dream Evil as well as Firewind and Mystic Prophecy). After some demo productions and several line up try-outs, NIGHTRAGE entered the famous halls of Studio Fredman in the band´s new hometown Gothenburg with producer Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Opeth, Hammerfall, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) to record their debut album "Sweet Vengeance" by the wintertime of 2002/2003.

From these promising beginnings, the line-up turned into a notorious one the moment Tomas "Tompa" Lindberg (ex - At The Gates, now in The Great Deceiver & Lock Up) joined in as vocalist. Meanwhile, talented Frenchman Brice Leclercq took over Bass duties, Tom S. Englund (of Sweden´s Evergrey) added some extremely atmospheric clean vocal passages and the stellar drum work was provided by none other than Per M. Jensen (The Haunted).

Needless to say that "Sweet Vengeance" turned out to be a catchy, aggressive masterpiece of modern Death Metal with very dark, classy melodic passages and tons of monumental riffs as well as ever-spilling vocal hook lines.
