Patrick: And yes, also the fourth album being released by Nightrage is not with the same line-up as their previous album. Even for the worse: from the line-up of A New Disease Is Born (2007) only founding member Marios Iliopoulos is still present. All those changes within the formation can not be without any consequences and does this mean the band will hand over on quality?
None of that! Even for the better: I think it is safe to say that the new album Wearing A Martyr"s Crown is by far Nightrages best album this far. And that absolutely has to do with the quintet aiming for a return to the sound of traditional Swedish death. Opener Shed The Blood is already enough to convince everyone that they absolutely succeeded in that. Tracks as A Grim Struggle and Failure Of All Human Emotions are other perfect examples of how the return to the original sound has sound worked out. Despite the fact that the band has used some nice acoustic moments (intro Mocking Modesty, Futile Tears), all at the album seems to be in token of brutality and aggression. But all subtlety and nicely carried by melody. As always Marios Iliopoulos is a guarantee for both furious and great guitar work - just listen to the album closure Sting Of remorse; what a beauty! - and new vocalist Antony Hamalainen uses a deep and brutal grow, like we heard during the heydays of Swedish death metal.
Changes in line-up or not this Wearing A Martyrs Crown is another more than excellent album which is a guaranteed nice addition to the CD collection for anyone who likes Swedish death metal.
