Are you up for some ultra-melodic Death Metal with outstanding guitar work? NIGHTRAGE would be the downright choice!
I think it’s a brownie that the band does only sparsely use clear sung passages, but screeching vocals for the biggest part. The speed oscillates between quite fast tempo and stomping music. All compositions come up with very nice guitar chords and solos, which is attached to the songs like a thread. Marios Iliopoulos plays continuous filigree riffs or leads, but he does not exaggerate the adoption concerning solos. The acoustic guitar parts are very felicitous in my opinion. They contribute a convenient as well as heart-warming effect to the tracks and build up a contrast to the riff-attacks. Over and above, the band manages to create catching refrains with a hymnal coloring. Together with the gorgeous acoustic guitar solo, the third song A Grim Struggle, shows up in brilliant light. The hook-line stays in mind irresistibly. During the title song Wearing A Martyr’s Crown, the musicians surprise with a short spoken arrangement, an acoustic solo comes into operation in addition to that.
NIGHTRAGE know how to perform a diverting album with finesses concerning guitar technique, but they do not exaggerate this dexterity. There are a lot of rhythms which invite to teeter with or to bang your head, combined with a slight addiction to technique, loosened by plucked acoustic delicacies. Have fun – but you should have a very distinctive preference for melodies in opulence! By:Stormlord
