Swedish death metal band Nightrage"s fourth album, Wearing The Martyr"s Crown, is one heck of an album. It starts off with a blast, indeed. "Shed The Blood" really gives a good first impression and there was no doubt in my mind that what was to come would be fantastic if it kept up the same level. "A Grim Struggle" is my personal favorite on this album, a song that"s likely to end up on my future "mixed CDs."

While the music is pretty good, sadly it is all very much alike. I am unable to distinguish between the songs as the album goes on. This is something I myself don"t appreciate a lot - but if you like this style of music in itself, you will find an entire album to your liking, which is just as awesome. The song "Futile Tears", halfway through the album, suddenly surprised me. Suddenly there"s some more tender singing and it sounds really well actually, they could really have made some good songs if they had mixed a little more of that into the album. Regrettably, there is not a lot more of it on the album - something I think could"ve really made a difference, overall, for the better.

The cover looks just fantastic - there is something about the picture that really speaks to me. The music, in turn, goes well with it. I can imagine that Nightrage would give an awesome performance live and I am very keen on seeing them once I get the chance.

Wearing The Martyr"s Crown has been on my iPod for a few days now and I am throughout pleased with their music. I maintain that they should differentiate their style a little more so that an entire album don"t sound like one perpetual song, though.

Reading through my review, I realize that I speak a little of this and a little of that, basically two oppositions. One one side I explain why I find the music really good and on the other what I think lack. The truth to this is, that I cannot really explain it. There is something to their music that makes me want to listen to it over and over again - even if it is not my favorite kind of album. I suggest buying the album and hear for yourself what it is that I mean, I cannot imagine you being disappointed with such a purchase. by Patrick
