Nightrage have pumped out a number of albums in recent times which has been matched by the bands seemingly revolving door policy regarding members, "Sweet Vengeance" was a masterful piece of melodeath in the typically Scandinavian fit but something went wrong when it came to "Descent Into Chaos" the album"s title a striking metaphor for where the band were at during that release. The band have had members of some of this genre"s biggest pioneers but now the Greek/Swedish culmination has come back with "Wearing A Martyr"s Crown"
So hopefully the band would return to the time when they were noted as a death metal powerhouse rather than a middle of the road metalcore act the tags that seemed to come with the changing sounds on display between albums. Rather than going wholly new or harking totally back to the good old days the band have found some common ground on Wearing Martyrs" Crown and provide a swelling mix of Death and Melody and even managing to find some originality in a very tired genre. The band can"t really be considered or compared to the old line-ups as each instrument has been shifted to another member with new ideas and ways of doing things. Luckily though original member Marios has done a fantastic job in his choices and the element of beatdowns and other typical features of the core genre have all but disappeared. So, most definitely a band with ability hopefully the focus that they have found on this album will continue forward with live shows and more albums like this! |
