I am a big fan of N.W.O.D.M. Bands like In Flames (their first period), Dark Tranquillity and of course At The Gates are among my favorite bands. When I first heard of Nightrage back in 2003 I was amazed by the quality of their music and their debut album “Sweet Vengeance” is among my favorite melodic death metal albums of all times. After the release of their previous album “A New Disease Is Born” many of the fans criticized the band because they moved in a more modern direction by adding some metalcore elements in their music. To all of you who did this I must say that you will be amazed by the bands new album “Wearing A Martyr’s Crown” because they return to their traditional Goteborg style death metal. First I must point that the new line up is excellent. Singer Antony Hämäläinen was a surprise because his vocal performance can easily be compared with the bands first singer the monster Thomas Lindburg. The rhythm section sounds very solid and creates the basis upon which the two guitarists Marios Iliopoulos and the new Olof Morck deliver their attack. The riffing is amazing, the melodies and the solos are placed where they should be and the acoustic guitars reminded me of In Flames era between “Jester Race” and “Colony”. I think that Marios has finally found his guitarmate with Morck. The album contains eleven songs of excellent melodic death metal with more characteristic of them the opening track “Shed The Blood”, “Collision Of Fate” which begins with a insane shredding riff, “Futile Tears” and “Failure Of All human Emotions”. The quality of the production done by the mastermind Fredrik Nordstrom is of course at the top level and puts the finishing touch to a great album. I think that Nightrage have created another masterpiece, their best work since their first album which I am positive that is going to be a must have for the fans of the genre.
